About

Kaspars Koo

I help Baltic, Nordic, and Eastern European founders land in the US.

Bio

Kaspars Koo, founder of KontorHQ

Born and raised in Riga. In the US since 2017 — first in NYC at a YCombinator-backed startup, then back to the Baltics, and now Boston-based since 2022. Married into the country.

I've built and grown products for over a decade — across startups, agencies, and consulting. I've shipped product, run sales, owned marketing, and built ops. 30+ clients in Europe, the US, and beyond.

Currently investing in early-stage startups through BADideas.fund. Regional director at the Latvian American Chamber of Commerce.

People I've worked with

Kaspars has a great ability to read people and situations. He quickly understands how others are thinking, what they truly need, and where a conversation is headed. His judgment is remarkably accurate, and I came to trust his instincts without feeling the need to second-guess them. Beyond that, he has a deep understanding of both product and technology and consistently approaches decisions by prioritizing the customer and their needs first. He combines strategic thinking with empathy, making him an invaluable partner and teammate.

I've worked with Kaspars on a few projects over the years. He's spent time on both sides — and he knows the people, the markets, and the common pitfalls. For any Baltic or Nordic founder thinking about the US, he's who I'd send you to first.

Kontor (n.)

KontorHQ takes its name from kontor — the Hanseatic-era trading post.

From the 13th century onwards, merchants from Riga, Tallinn, and other Hanseatic cities established kontors in foreign hubs: London, Bergen, Bruges, Novgorod. A kontor was a foothold: credibility, local knowledge, trusted relationships. It's how Baltic and North German traders succeeded far from home.

Riga joined the Hanseatic League in 1282. The word kontor still means “office” across the Nordics and Estonia. KontorHQ is the same idea, 700 years later: a foothold for Baltic, Nordic, and Eastern European founders entering the United States.
